Professional Makeup

I've been networking with some incredible people but one that I have always been grateful for meeting is Sheelagh Powell - she is addicted to makeup!

You will usually find her travelling the Midlands with an airbrush in hand, ready to make her clients look and feel fabulous. I have watched her give makeup tutorials and not only has she made her model look gorgeous, she also gave the whole room watching the confidence to go and try some of her top tips. I went home and tried false eyelashes - for the very first time.

I was always intrigued by her airbrush and asked her more about it. "I love it," she said, "I love applying it and I love the confidence it gives my brides. It lasts for hours, looks flawless and feels weightless on your skin."

Sheelagh does not promote any brand of makeup, but what she will do is show you how to get the very best out of what you already carry around in your makeup bag. She also runs pamper parties, makeup master classes, eyelash extensions and of course bridal makeup.

Sheelagh helped me get the best out of my makeup

Sheelagh has recently launched SP Beauty with Jane Calderwood and the team now offer beauty treatments designed to pamper and prepare you for your big day.

I experienced a Nu Skin facial with Sheelagh recently and I must say I really enjoyed it. I do like the occasional bit of pampering. I have also worked with Sheelagh professionally and it was a pleasure to work with her and see her in action on set!

My skin glowed after my Nu Skin treatment - loved it

In 2013 Sheelagh and Jane helped over 50 brides prepare for their special day and I would highly recommend them if you are looking for professional makeup and beauty services for your wedding.

Wedding Insurance

I was sorting out my car insurance the other month with my local broker and wondered about wedding insurance. I found out that this doesn't cost too much but protects a lot of things.

So I did some research:
With the average wedding costing £18,000 and the hiring of many different, and disparate contractors, it makes sense to protect that money. You want your wedding day to go just the way you planned it so it only makes sense to protect that dream.

Your bigger contractors should all have public liability and professional indemnity insurance - I do and renew every year so that my customers and clients are protected (and so am I for that matter).

I asked my insurance broker - Independent Insurance Bureau Ltd - if they do much wedding insurance and they said that they do. However, they added, they wished more brides came to see them about a year before the big day that way they could make sure everything is covered, that every eventuality is considered along every step of the way to your big day. No-one wants to be left with egg on their face, bills to pay when no-one has turned up or being let down by suppliers leaving you high and dry - so insurance makes a lot of sense.

Worth doing - for peace of mind, if nothing else

IIB have a proposal form that you can pick up and complete to get the ball rolling or you can call in and have a chat about your plans - they are a really helpful lot at IIB and have offices in Ashby de la Zouch, Loughborough, Coalville and Ibstock.  For the peace of mind it offers - I would say wedding insurance is a must and it doesn't cost too much.

Win Win Win I say.

Pretty Nails

Just occasionally I like to get my nails done. I am blessed with quite nice nails - I have inherited it from my Grandma - and for a special occasion I pop along to see Helen.

I never have anything too fancy done but a nice French Polish is more in my line. I have seen some of Helen's creations - she will be as adventurous as you want her to be. I've also seen photos of how she has given someone, who is an obsessive nail biter, some nails for her holiday. She is a magician and very gentle.

mybeauty

Not only is Helen a professional nail technician she is also a spray tan expert. This is not something I am interested in but I know a number of people love using her spray tan tent.

So if you need nails and tan sorting and live near to Moira/Ashby de la Zouch then get in touch with Helen and find out more about mybeauty

She is happy chatting on twitter too - follow her - @innergoddess77

Amazing facts

Business Cards

I have ordered new Devoted business cards as the first 50 I ordered have almost gone. I have remembered to put my Facebook and twitter details on it. But have to say it was something I remembered at the eleventh hour. "Eeeek" I screamed as I realised and quickly went back to the printer to change my order.
Save.
Phew.
Here's a sneaky peek...

Emergency First Aid at Work

Not a sexy title for a wedding photography website - but I am justifiably proud of this. In early December I attended an Emergency First Aid at Work training course and passed with flying colours.

I am not a very good pupil and often get quite grumpy when attending them - but this course was loads of fun, I learnt an awful lot, the day whizzed by and I feel confident now that I would be able help people that may need first aid.

As a wedding photographer I am in groups of people of all ages, of varying physical health and at a very emotional time for them. For my own peace of mind I decided that a little First Aid training would be useful.

I often help the bride get into her dress, reposition buttonholes for guests, chase a caterer, hold a horse - the list is quite long. To also be able to help someone in a medical emergency offers peace of mind, not just for me, but for my clients and their nearest and dearest.

My certificate from HDP Education Solutions
for my Emergency First Aid at Work course

In fact if you, or anyone at your workplace, would be interested in First Aid Training I would highly recommend HDP Education Solutions. The course was informative, fun and, most importantly, gave me the confidence to be able to help someone if I find them in need of emergency first aid whilst I am working.
